Preventing & Recovering from Burnout in Sustainability

Burnout is a state of mental, physical and emotional exhaustion, often accompanied by feelings of detachment, cynicism and helplessness. For various reasons it's on the rise and the sustainability community is at increased risk.

This is no wonder given the scale and complexity of the issues we’re trying to solve and the frustration we can experience when our solutions are met with closed doors and bureaucracy. When coupled with the fact that we care deeply about our work, the content of which can take its toll emotionally, the effect is often a pendulum response between overwork and overwhelm.

Come and find out more about what burnout is, how to spot the signs, and most importantly what you can do about it by using a tool that’s free and available - your breath.

As part of this session you will learn about the connection between the breath and the nervous system. We will practice some basic breathing techniques that you can do anywhere anytime, leaving you with an understanding of how to actively use your breath to self regulate your nervous system.

We'll also leave you with some guidance on how to create more supportive working conditions to not just manage burnout, but also prevent it.

This online workshop will be hosted by The Now Work and facilitated by Colwyn Elder.
